The novel 'The Age of Miracles,' by Karen Thompson Walker tells the story of an adolescent girl struggling with coming of age at the same time that the world around her seems to be coming apart. Would I become a hoarder of food like Julia's mother? Or would I try to live my life to the fullest while daylight became several days long and nights seem never ending?Īlthough this is a dystopian novel, the more important aspect to this beautifully written book, is getting to know the characters. Things progress gradually, and I wondered as I read how I would react in this situation.
However, this is not your typical dystopian novel, with lots of violence and outlandish events happening. Days become longer and longer, as do the nights.
